Sir Roger Moore first worked with UNICEF in early 1980s, promoting its greeting cards. He was appointed UNICEF Special Representative for the Film Arts in 1991 and soon after was named UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to acknowledge his outstanding service for children.
As a Goodwill Ambassador, he has worked extensively for children's rights - meeting with government officials, visiting UNICEF projects, and helping advocacy and fund-raising activities around the world. He is honorary chairperson of the UNICEF/Kiwanis International Campaign to Eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) and devotes much effort to that cause. He is also heavily involed in the Sheraton "Checkout for Children" campaign as well as the British Airways appeal, "Change for Good". Moore has received numerous awards for his humanitarian work. In 2003 he was knighted by HM Queen Elizabeth II for his activities as a UNICEF ambassador.
