Sir Roger MooreAn open letter to Gordon Ramsay from Sir Roger Moore. MI6.co.uk reports: Sir Roger Moore has hit back at criticism from celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who accused him of double standards over his campaign to put an end to cruel animal practices in the production of foie gras. Commenting on the campaign last week, Ramsay said, "I think it's a bit two-faced of old Roger. At the height of his fame he had no scruples about swanning round top restaurants eating fancy food, and now he's telling us we all have to be goody two-shoes. No thanks, Roger. It's not on." Sir Roger has now written an open letter back to Ramsay explaining his logic. "Dear Gordon, I thought I should drop you a line after our names hitting the headlines over the 'Foie Gras Furore' as it has been dubbed. Indeed I did swan around fancy restaurants at the height of my fame, as you say, and still do to this day in fact and rather enjoy it. However, the point I was trying to make was that it was in total ignorance that I used to eat foie gras. Once I was made aware of the process involved and treatment of the poor birds, I felt physically sick, just as I felt when I saw a photograph of a lung infected with cancer 35 years ago. I gave up smoking cigarettes immediately and haven't smoked one since. Now I don't think I could ever knowingly eat foie gras again either. I don't believe I am a hypocrite, rather a concerned person where the ethical treatment of animals is involved. Kind regards, Roger Moore". MI6.co.uk

Sir Roger Moore in the famous James Bond pose from 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977) Sir Roger Moore against the Bond pose. Earlier this month Daniel Craig was introduced as the new James Bond. Sir Roger Moore was the first of the former 007 actors who commented on the producers' choice: I'm delighted to hear that Daniel Craig has been appointed the new 007. I know Michael [Wilson] and Barbara [Broccoli] have every confidence in him, despite me suggesting they might go for a mature Bond in this film (of say 78), and I share that confidence. It's a very exciting time and I would like to wish everyone at Eon much success, and welcome Daniel to the family. As for now we already know that Craig and Moore have at least one thing in common. They both dislike guns. In the recent interview for the OK! magazine Craig admitted that he hates handguns. The article from Scotsman.com commenting on the interview was quick to name another Bond actor with similar feelings: "Roger Moore, who played the superspy from 1973 to 1985, said after quitting the role that he hated that awful pose of Bond with his gun which has become an iconic movie image. The actor later became an ambassador for children's charity UNICEF and declared: Today I am completely opposed to small arms and what they can do to children. I played every role tongue-in-cheek because I don't really believe in that sort of hero. I don't like guns." Scotsman.com

Sir Roger Moore will co-star in 'The Sangraal'NEW MOVIE WITH MOORE! Gulfnews.com reports exciting news: "James Bond legend Sir Roger Moore will be starring in a $50 million movie to be filmed in Abu Dhabi, studio chiefs have announced. Hollywood wild boy Robert Downey Jr is also set to appear in The Sangraal, an archaeological thriller. It is the first film from Nickelson Entertainment Group (NEG), which has plans to create a film studio in the UAE. Producers are hoping to recruit an actress from this region to play a major role and will also be scouting locally for extras. Michelle Nickelson, chief executive of NEG, told Gulf News that about half the film would be made in Abu Dhabi with most of the rest shot in Budapest. She said it was easy to recruit big names such as Moore and Downey Jr to star in the movie, filming for which is likely to start in December or January and last for six weeks.'My partner on the film, Bill Macdonald, is a pretty well-known producer in Hollywood. If you're in the business at that level, it's not difficult at all to get people like this. It's very exciting because it's something we've been waiting to do for a long time,' she said. The action adventure film, due for release in summer 2006, also starts John Rhys Davis, who played Gimli in 'Lord of the Rings', and Joachim de Almeida, well known from the television series '24'. In The Sangraal, Downey Jr plays the film's lead character Stone, an Abu Dhabi-based archaeologist who 'unwittingly ends up solving one of the world's greatest mysteries'. Moore stars as Murdoch Macarthur, the head of an ancient organisation, while Rhys Davis is a senior churchman who uses de Almeida as 'the instrument of his evil wrath'. Nickelson said if there were no sequels to The Sangraal, the film's characters would become a television series called The Seventh Protocol.

Steve Coogan as Sir Roger Moore playing Lord Brett Sinclair performing the very much Saintish eybrow thingThe new "Persuaders". British comic Steve Coogan is to team up with Hollywood star Ben Stiller in a big-budget remake of The Persuaders. The pair will take the roles made famous by Roger Moore and Tony Curtis in the cult 1971 TV show. Roger and Tony played two wealthy playboys - English aristocrat Lord Brett Sinclair and brash American Danny Wilde - who teamed up to solve crimes and seduce beautiful women. And Steve, best known as Alan Partridge, says he has always wanted to play Roger's part. I really, really loved "The Persuaders", he said. I liked the fact that after Moore had punched someone, he'd immediately take a comb out, sort his haircut and wander off. The big-money project has been in the pipeline for some time. Steve said last year: I'm attached to play the Roger Moore part and I want Ben Stiller to do the Tony Curtis part. He's a friend of mine, and he wants to do something with me. He's a somebody and I'm a nobody, so I'm very grateful for the relationship right now. The 39-year-old actor has already made a foray into Hollywood, playing Phileas Fogg in the remake of "Around the World In 80 Days". Meanwhile Ben has starred in a string of box office hits including "Meet The Parents" and the remake of "Starsky And Hutch". Movie giant DreamWorks is making the big screen version along with ITV's production arm Granada America. It is yet unknown whether Moore or Curtis will have cameo appearances in the film. Sir Roger Moore at the Monaco Supercar show last week, May 5-8 Moore at the Monaco Supercar show. Last week Sir Roger Moore appeared at the Monaco Supercar show. He was there to do the official opening of the event. Here's an excerpt from the Cars.msn.co.uk about the show: "Bizarrely, Roger Moore signals the show's opening by driving up to the door in a Venturi Fetish. Obviously there's a beautiful lady companion alongside, but despite the Hollywood entrance, it's the car that's the star here. Smoother than Moore in his prime, the Venturi silently glides up to the door, its electric motor having the performance of a sports car without the noise. Its styling, too, is smart rather than in-your-face. It's a tantalising glimpse to the future, and one that, crucially, shows that even frivolous indulgences like sportscars can change with times. Old Rog' does the official opening and the second Top Marques Monaco Show opens its doors. Inside, it's a veritable toyshop for the wealthy. Pride of place at the entrance is the Bugatti 16.4 Veyron, the troubled hypercar that's been more about testing customers' patience, than proving its bold top speed claims. It's heartening to see Noble and Radical proudly waving the British flag at the door, too." Cars.msn.co.uk

Sir Roger Moore as Simon Templar, The Saint Sir Roger Moore back as Simon Templar? Before Roger Moore was Bond, he was "The Saint" and now that gentlemen thief character may be making a comeback, and not as a sequel to that 1997 Val Kilmer movie either. First off the official web site of Roger Moore posted this fairly recently: There are moves afoot to make a new Saint tv movie. Inspector Teal will be central to it, and the characters will be very faithful to the original stories - it will actually be set in the 1930s, though with a contemporary twist bringing in an ageing Simon Templar. Who will play him I wonder? After that the official web site for "Saint" creator Leslie Charteris responded to those comments, saying For our part all we can do is confirm that there are moves afoot. If it comes off in line with what Sir Roger's said and in line with some of the material we've seen, then we think Saint fans will be very very happy but things such as this have a long way to go before they get in front of a camera and all it needs is some cocky American producer to pick up on Val Kilmer's recent comments that he'd like to return to the role for it all to go horribly wrong. MGM will release a brand new DVD edition of the film on March 22, 2005 (on Region 1). You can already pre-order it on Amazon.com. It is yet unknown if there will be any extra material, like commentaries from Sir Roger or original trailers. Well, at least it wasn't mentioned on Amazon.com so far. The film was directed by Alvin Rakoff and premiered in late 1969. It wasn't as a big success as it was hoped but soon the film became a cult classic within Roger Moore fans, especially since it hasn't ever been released on video. For many years the only possibility of watching "Crossplot" was by getting to see it by chance on television. "Crossplot" was Sir Roger's first attempt to transform into a big picture star again, after seven years of playing The Saint on television.

Sir Roger MooreSir Roger and STARZ to help. Heroes aren't found just in the movies ... In the world we live in, YOU are called upon to be the hero. So says Sir Roger Moore, who played one of the big screen's greatest heroes, James Bond, in calling on Americans to support the efforts of UNICEF to help child Tsunami victims. Sir Roger and Starz Entertainment Group LLC (SEG), the country's largest premium television movie service, announced today that they are teaming up to create and run a series of public service announcements urging Americans to help UNICEF, for which Sir Roger serves as Global Goodwill Ambassador. The spots urge Americans to provide financial support for UNICEF as it works to help hundreds of thousands of children affected by the Tsunami. Starting January 18th, the PSAs will run on teen-oriented channel WAM!, on Starz Family and on Encore, the most widely-distributed network in the SEG family. Approximately 24 million U.S. homes subscribe to the Encore channel. In addition, SEG said it will make the spots available for free to all its affiliates, cable and satellite, to run on other channels. SEG also made a corporate contribution to UNICEF. In expressing appreciation to SEG, Sir Roger noted, At UNICEF we see tragedy all the time. We also see hope, and it is the generosity of individuals and corporations such as Starz Entertainment Group that brings us hope. SEG President and CEO Robert Clasen said, Like all people everywhere we have been deeply moved by the Tsunami disaster, and particularly its impact on children. We have been searching for a way to use our medium and the creative talents of our employees to help the storm's victims. So we are delighted that Sir Roger brought us together with UNICEF to focus our efforts on the need to help children impacted by this disaster. Sir Roger and SEG had been working together to promote their "Ultimate Bond" festival running on Starz On Demand in the first part of January. The festival allows Starz subscribers in cable systems with on demand service to watch 17 Bond movies whenever and as often as they wish with all the features of a DVD - fast forward, rewind and pause - at no additional charge. Sir Roger MooreNo to "Victor", Yes to "The Magic Snowman II"! It seems that we can finally confirm whether Sir Roger will be appearing in "Victor" or not. In the last Q's & A's at Sir Roger's official site, when asked about "Victor" he replied: I am not appearing in "Victor". A script was sent to me some time ago, and I passed on it. So no, you won't be seeing me in it. Sir Roger also told about his current film projects and plans: "Peter Cottontail" on the other hand is a film I'm involved with. I've recorded all of my dialogue and look forward to seeing the completed animation. There are one or two other things upcoming, but not yet confirmed. One involves an old friend. Let's hope we'll get to see Sir Roger on the big screen soon.

"The Magic Snowman II". And the good news are: The film "The Magic Snowman II" will be produced partly in Vermont next year. Prime Rate Investors, Inc. announced its subsidiary High Angle Media, Inc. will be working on this sequel to the 1988 feature family film distributed by Miramax Films and Artisan Entertainment. The character of the Magic Snowman is again to be voiced by Sir Roger Moore, with principal production taking place in Vermont and Slovenia in the winter of 2005-06. The production budget for the U.S. portion of the sequel's production is $1.6 million. The holiday-oriented film shot in high definition video format will also benefit UNICEF, the principal motivation for the casting of Moore and Vanessa Redgrave, in addition to other cast members still in negotiation.
