Upcoming projects / Dec 11, 2011

Sir Roger Moore has currently three projects awaiting premiere and two projects in pre-production. In the meantime, in 2009 and 2010, Sir Roger Moore filmed a Post Office TV ad, was interviewed for a German TV special about Christopher Lee, guested on a Michael Winner special and played the voice role of Archbishop in a Danish film "De vilde svaner" (for details see Filmography). Also in July and August 2010 "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" premiered worldwide. The film features cameo appearance from Sir Roger Moore voicing the character of Tab Lazenby. He was also recently rumoured to have been attached to a comedy series "Benidorm", but the information seems to have been a hoax. Soon a new TV special "Tony Curtis, Driven to Stardom" will be broadcast on American TV. Sir Roger Moore is amongst interviewees paying tribute to the famous actor.

The Lighter / awaiting premiere

Sir Roger Moore's voice-acting talents are used again in "The Lighter", a comedy written and directed by George and Samuel Clemens (sons of Brian Clemens, who - as RM fans will recall - wrote screenplays to three episodes of "The Persuaders!"). The film is a live acting short starring Stephen Wright, Youssef Kerkour and Sean Knopp. Sir Roger is voicing the character of George Boreman played by Wright. "The Lighter" is now completed and was screened at the National Film Theatre in London on July 11, 2011. It has yet to be announced when and where will it be made available widely. You can read more about the film, as well as previous Clemens Bros. productions, at their official website.

Summer Night, Winter Moon / pre-production

In July 2010 Imperial Film Productions has announced a new film planned called "Summer Night, Winter Moon" based upon the novel by Jane Huxley. This "story of passion, deceit and death" is set in 1935 and tells a story of an art dealer Trevor and his best friend Dante, an Italian/American fashion photographer, who are visiting Capri where they both fall for Antonia, a local beauty. The film will be shot at Cinecittà Studios in Rome (interiors) and in Capri (exteriors). The locations listing now also mentiones Florida and Pinewood Studios. The film will be directed by Xavier Koller and photographed by Chris O'Dell. Sir Roger Moore will play HH Tompkinson, a charming and quintessential Englishman, and a very wealthy art gallery owner. The film has now also an entry at IMDbPro where it is set for a release in 2012.

Connemara Days / pre-production

As it was announced in February 2010 by The Irish Times, Sir Roger Moore is to co-star in "Connemara Days", a fictional film about the making of John Ford's "The Quiet Man". The movie is to be made in the village where the 1952 classic was filmed. The film is to be directed by Kevin Connor and will be produced by Belfast company Causeway Pictures. It will also feature performances from Aidan Quinn and Geraldine Chaplin. Stacy Keach, star of "Escape from LA" and Moore's co-star in "Street People", will play director John Ford, who arrived in Cong in 1951 with the "Duke" John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

The "Connemara Days" plot concerns an 18-year-old girl, Heather O'Dea, who falls for one of Ford’s assistant directors. In a statement issued back in February 2010 by Fáilte Ireland, Moore said he was very excited to be part of a "delightful project". "'The Quiet Man' was undoubtedly the best movie John Ford ever directed. It is also one of my all-time favourite films," he said. "The opportunity to revisit the time when Hollywood arrived in Ireland to shoot it was simply too delicious an opportunity to miss." The script, based on a novel by Steve Mayhew, has been described as "excellent" by director Kevin Connor, who also directed "Marco Polo" and "Black Beard", among other films. The principal photography was set to start in the Summer of 2010 but due to financial difficulties it had to be postponed and is now scheduled for Spring 2012. Sir Roger Moore is also to be an executive producer of the film.

You can follow the production on a regularly updated Facebook page.

The Saint / cancelled

According to Sir Roger Moore (see Q&A archive at Roger-Moore.com), the pilot episode of the new "Saint" series was to start shooting in September 2009 in Toronto, and he was to have a small part in it. The production, however, was postponed until March 2010 and then until August 2010. Then the information was that the 2-hr pilot episode would be shot between May 6 and July 31, 2011 in New Orleans for a 2012 release. However, although unconfirmed it seems that the project was recently abandoned.

Originally the pilot episode was to be directed by T.J. Scott who also helped to write the first version of the screenplay with William J. MacDonald and Jorge Zamacona (Ian Dickerson, the Saint expert, was also involved in the writing process). However, Ron Shelton of the "Bull Durham" and "Hollywood Homicide" fame was then linked for the job. Originally the show was to be produced by Geoffrey Moore for Brightlight Pictures, Insomnia Media Group and Instinctive Film. Imdb.com then mentioned Bron Pictures instead and Geoffrey Moore was no longer credited as producer. There were to contenders for the role of Simon Templar - James Purefoy and Dougray Scott. When Purefoy moved to "The Philantropist", Scott took over, but then again Purefoy was mentioned to be the new Saint.

Gnomes and Trolls / awaiting premiere

"Gnomes and Trolls: The Forest Trial" is a follow-up to the 2008 film "Gnomes and Trolls: The Secret Chamber". It's a Swedish animated feature film and features Sir Roger Moore in the voice-role of Leif. According to IMDb.com it premiered in Sweden on Feb 5, 2010 and was also presented at the last year's Berlin and Cannes film festivals. However, the Wikipedia page for Robert Rhodin, who directed the film, mentions... it has yet to be finished. The official website of the film was online for a while at Gnomes&Trolls.com but now seems to be gone.

Agent Crush / awaiting premiere

"Agent Crush" was produced back in 2007 and was already presented at the European Film Market in February 2008. Worldwide premiere was originally announced for 2009 but it seems the production hasn't yet found a distributor neither for American nor for Europan market. The official website of the film at: AgentCrush.com doesn't seem to be working at the moment. This, however, may be due to technical reasons as it has been online for the last couple of years. It featured basic "making of" stuff. It seems the film might end up on DVD which would be a reasonable solution instead of waiting few more years for a theatrical release. As for March 2011 the status of the film hasn't changed.
